Patient Amenities Endowment Fund

The Dilawri Foundation proudly supports The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) through the Patient Amenities Endowment Fund. This fund provides financial assistance to patients and their families and is backed entirely by donations.

Being diagnosed with an illness and undergoing treatment can be an emotional and draining experience for a child. The presence of a parent or caregiver is a vital component for keeping a child’s spirits up. Public health insurance doesn’t always cover the needs of patients and their families. There are incidental expenses that may include the purchase of a caregiver’s hurried lunch, specialized pain relief drugs or other medication. Some caregivers will reduce the time they spend at work or give up their jobs entirely in order to take care of their children.

This is where the Patient Amenities Endowment Fund comes in. Since 2012, The Dilawri Foundation has been contributing to this fund and helping to support the families of children receiving treatment at SickKids. Funding is provided for transportation, parking fees, meals and accommodations allowing caregivers to focus on their loved ones. The fund also provides medication and equipment critical to the immediate and long-term recovery of a child undergoing treatment. In addition, funding is provided for recreational aftercare camps and community support groups to help restore a sense of play and normalcy for those affected by an illness.

Bliss Ball

With a commitment to giving back to our community and raising awareness of the Patient Amenities Endowment Fund, The Dilawri Foundation created and hosted the Bliss Ball gala. The evening gala spanned over three consecutive years starting in 2012. Each elegant evening affair offered an opportunity for Canada’s leaders in philanthropy, entertainment, media and politics a chance to join forces for a vital cause. The star studded events also brought out some of the biggest names from the world of entertainment including Shania Twain, Jennifer Hudson, Martin Sheen, Chris Noth, Mario Lopez, Brian Adams, Nicole Scherzinger and Matt Dusk among others.

Funds raised through Bliss Ball 2012, 2013 and 2014 were donated to the Patient Amenities Endowment Fund at SickKids Hospital to help children battling an illness and their families.
